On May 17, the Ministry of Home Affairs decided to extend the nationwide lockdown till May 31. PM Modi in his earlier address had signalled that lockdown 4.0 would be of a different colour from its predecessors. As per reports, state governments are in favour of some major relaxations to scale up economic activities in the non-containment zones. The government of India is all set to restore normalcy with the following conditions.

Activities Prohibited in all zones (i.e red, orange and green)

  • Air travel, Metro rail, all government and private educational institutions, hospitality services, cinema halls/malls, swimming pool, parks, theatres, bars, auditorium, all social/political/sports/entertainment/academic/cultural/religious functions and other gatherings, all religious places.
  • Movement is prohibited for non-essential purposes between 7 pm to 7 am.
  • Golden agers above 65 years, people with co-morbidities, children below 10 years and pregnant women are advised to stay at home.

Activities permitted in all zones

  • Inter-state movement of passenger vehicles and buses, with mutual consent of the states.
  • Intra-state movement of passenger vehicles and buses, as decided by the states and union territories.
  • Restaurants are allowed to operate for home delivery only.
  • Sports complexes sans spectators allowed to open.

Activities permitted in containment areas

  • Except for the continuous supply of essentials and medical emergencies nobody is allowed to come out of the zone.
  • House to house surveillance, intensive contact tracing, and other clinical interventions are allowed if needed.
