The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has deployed its female doctors in the forward areas of Ladakh, for the first time in the country. The ITBP, which did not allow any female officer to be deployed at such locations, has changed its standard operating procedure (SOP), considering the tense situation at the border. According to the ITBP top officials in Leh, female officers are now deployed at the border area to take care of troops along with other para-medics.

The female officers have now been deployed at the border area to take care of troops along with other paramedics. Importantly, these females’ medical doctors have been tasked to oversee the medical necessities of troops. They’ve been deployed in numerous strategic areas with different paramedics to help them. Apart from this, pharmacists and nursing assistants have also been deployed on a large scale to deal with any situation and adequate supplies are being sent continuously as per the need.

At the Leh base, where troops reach from different parts of the country, must go through a strict medical check-up and get a fitness certificate. This responsibility has also been tasked to a female officer. Dr. Katyayani Sharma, who heads this basecamp, says that every soldier has to undergo three types of tests after coming to the base camp. They are then given final clearance. All arrangements have been made for the security of these soldiers posted during the Corona period. Apart from this, a large team of doctors has been deployed to monitor their health.

Apart from China, COVID-19 is another threat in Leh. For this, ITBP is sending troops to such locations with fitness checks, which take days. ITBP is currently receiving troops from all parts of the country, has made a base in Leh where after getting quarantine for prescribed days, the troops undergo four staged physical check-ups.
