The Science and Engineering Research Board have launched a new scheme called ‘Accelerate Vigyan’ to provide a single platform for research internships, capacity building programs and workshops across the country.

Plan of Action

This inter-ministerial scheme is to encourage high-end scientific research and prepare scientific manpower, which can lead to research careers and a knowledge-based economy. The plan will be to organize about 1000 high-end workshops in order to provide opportunities to about 25,000 doctoral and postgraduate students in the next five years. Educational laboratories in India are in very poor condition. Special attention will be given to the construction of safe scientific laboratories under the scheme.

Scheme’s Vision

The vision is to expand the research base, with three broad goals, namely, consolidation/aggregation of all scientific programmes, initiating high-end orientation workshops, and creating opportunities for research internships for those who do not have access to such resources/facilities.

The scheme includes two main programs-

  1. Abhyaas
  2. Sammohan (Bring Together)

Abhyaas (Skill Development) – It is an attempt to boost research and development in the country by enabling and grooming potential PG/PhD students by means of developing their research skills in selected areas across different disciplines or fields.

Sammohan (Bring Together) – It is to catalogue the capacity building activities in science and technology supported by all government funding agencies in the country.

Objective of the scheme

The main objective of the scheme is to encourage scientific research and create scientific manpower to build a research-based career and knowledge-based economy. To initiate mechanisms to identify research capacity, mentoring, training and workshops at the national level and provide strength.

Applications Open For Winter Session

Accelerate Vigyan has started calling for applications under its ‘ABHYAAS’ component for the winter session. SERB has also been planning to launch an app to Accelerate Vigyan in the coming two months. A web portal www.acceleratevigyan.gov.in also has been started for information related to this.
