On Friday Prime Minister Narendra Modi connected with Sarpanchs from across the country to mark the Panchayati Raj Day.
While addressing to sarpanch’s he appreciated the efforts of all the villages in maintaining the social distancing. Because of them, the world is taking note of India’s response to coronavirus.
With the simple mantra of Do Gaz Ki Doori (maintaining distance of two yards), rural India is setting an example of social distancing in simple words. Villages have shown us their disciplines, principles and traditional values to fight coronavirus.
In the honor of Panchayati Raj Day, the prime minister launched the eGramSwaraj portal and mobile app intending to accelerate the pace of development in villages.

The Prime Minister further explained that the e-Gram Swaraj portal is a step towards improving and completing the digitization of Gram Panchayats.

“All the details of the development works, the fund allocated for them, all this data will be available on the portal. And through this platform the villagers will be able to access all the data on their mobile phones which will enhance transparency,” the Prime Minister said.

Website’s introduction reads as, “To strengthen e-Governance in Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) across the country, Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) has launched eGramSwaraj, a user-friendly web-based portal. eGramSwaraj aims to bring in better transparency in decentralised planning, progress reporting, and work-based accounting.”
The website contains detailed information about each state. Like, the number of profiles being created, the number of approved GPDPs (Gram Panchayat Development Plans), details progress made in other areas, financial progress onboarding, the geo-tagging initiated and more.
It will also have a state-wise Public Financial Management System (PFMS) integration chart. According to that chart Karnataka, Odisha, Assam, and Uttar Pradesh are completely integrated. Whereas, Haryana, Punjab, and Chhattisgarh are in the 90 per cent bracket. States like Gujarat, Kerala and seven others are yet to get started.

Swamitva Scheme
Along with the eGramSwaraj portal and mobile app the Indian government has also launched the Swamitva Scheme. The Swamitva Scheme aims to ensure the demarcation of inhabited land in rural areas using the latest surveying methods including the use of drones. The scheme is an important step in the digitalization. The scheme will help in reducing disputes over property. The portal will make easier for villagers to avail loans from banks.
