Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the ‘Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyaan’ scheme for migrant workers who had to go back to their homes without jobs amid the lockdown. The campaign of 125 days across 116 districts in 6 states aims to work in mission mode to help migrant workers. It will involve intensified and focused implementation of 25 different types of works to provide jobs and create infrastructure in the rural regions of the country with a resource envelope of Rs 50,000 crore.
Prime Minister Modi launched the campaign through remote from Telihar village in Khagaria District of Bihar in the presence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. On the occasion, he also spoke to migrant workers from different parts of the country and enquired about the difficulties they faced during the lockdown.
The programme will cover 116 districts from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha. All these districts have received more than 25,000 migrant workers during the lockdown. Estimated expenditure for the scheme is Rs 50,000 crores and the money allotted for this will be front-loaded. The campaign will involve focused implementation of 25 different types of works to provide employment to migrant workers and create infrastructure in the rural regions of the country.
The campaign will be made functional through Common Service Centres and Krishi Vigyan Kendras in the districts. The Abhiyaan is being introduced through the coordinated effort of 12 different Ministries and Departments namely Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Road Transport & Highways, Mines, Drinking Water & Sanitation, Environment, Railways, Petroleum & Natural Gas, New & Renewable Energy, Border Roads, Telecom and Agriculture.

To avail the scheme, one must be a citizen of one of these 6 states.
Applicants must have an Aadhaar card.
People above 18 years of age can only apply.
