Government think-tank NITI Aayog recently released June month’s ranking of aspiring districts based on February-June 2020 period. Bijapur district topped in this ranking. The delta rankings took into account incremental progress made by over 112 aspirational districts across six developmental areas during February-June this year. Health and nutrition, education, agriculture and water resources, financial inclusion, skill development and basic infrastructure were the development indexes areas that were taken into consideration for the ranking.

What was the position of Bijapur in the last ranking?

Bijapur district ranking has improved significantly in all sectors. The district was ranked 39th in February in terms of health. Similarly, it improved its rankings from 109 to 36 in agriculture, 106 to 32 in education, 101 to 53 in financial inclusion and 54 to 15th in basic infrastructure.

What is the Aspirational Districts Programme?

The Aspirational Districts programme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018 under its think tank NITI Aayog. The programme aims at holistic development of the districts. About 115 districts were identified from 28 states. The programme heavily relies upon the help provided by states for its smooth functioning. Delta ranking is a ranking released every month, which shows which district has improved in which sector. The government had released the first Delta Ranking in June 2018.
